Joseph DeAngelo’s rapes and killings were more lurid than Zodiacs, Zodiac was more famous because he interacted with the media. DeAngelo didn’t contact the media, but he did call and taunt at least one of his rape victims many years after the crime.
I like the criminology podcast, but I didn’t finish their DeAngelo series because I don’t have the appetite to listen to so many graphic descriptions of rapes. I’ve listened to their Zodiac series all the way through twice. The usually do one or two episodes a crime now, but they started with a long Zodiac series followed by a long Golden State Killer series, before DeAngelo was caught.

All of DeAngelo’s victims talked about how small his penis was. People laughed when this was discussed in court.

I’m surprised you don’t remember Santa Rosa, since some people think Zodiac was responsible for all of it, so some of the suspects overlap. If you want lurid, Fred Manalli became was a junior college teacher who taught victim Kim Allen. He became a suspect after he died in a car crash and his belongings included her backpack and sadomasochistic drawing that included pictures of her and of his own head on a woman’s body. I guess it’s discussed in Zodiac Unmasked, but I haven’t read that. I know you have.
