I have a pretty high tolerance for late era beach boys shmaltz so I was pretty OK with the majority of Radio. Happy that it even existed at all. “Isnt It Time” is a pretty underrated tune. Would be kind of hilarious if Mike Love squeaks out another beach boys studio album to spoil it, wouldnt put that past him. No Pier Pressure’s “All collaborations” gimmick is thankfully alleviated a bit by a third of the songs featuring other Beach Boys. Maybe there are all-Brian versions of the other songs sitting in a vault somewhere that will come out eventually too. The Last Song was a solid enough way to bow out.
Yeah it’s wild how much material he has in the vaults still, I don’t doubt there’s plenty more to come still. I agree it would be nice to have a comprehensive collection of the Paley material, hopefully they’ll get to that eventually, and who knows what else they might be sitting on. Didn’t know they were coming out with Adult/Child finally, that’s really cool. There’s still loads of material on those recent archive beach boys sessions compilations I’ve barely had the chance to scratch the surface of.
I kinda wish I had seen him live when I could. But it was hard for me to justify the high cost of his shows when I knew I wasn’t exactly going to be seeing a performer at the top of their game. I saw BB King live near the end of his life and it was awful. But I kinda regret not going for it when I had the chance.
