Valli’s birth year has been called into question. He never addressed the issue himself until a 2007 posting at the Official Frankie Valli Site, sponsored by his record label Universal Records.[18] Much of his previous official publicity used 1937 as his birth year. Other sources gave his year of birth as 1934, such as the Bear Family Records release The Four Lovers (BCD 15424) and a 1965 mug shot, available through The Smoking Gun.[20]
Is he actually just lip syncing? I know that he’s had backup singers handle the falsetto for a long time.
Willie Nelson is still performing at 92 and people are saying good things about his performance. It’s possible I’ll end up going to see him later this year. He and Dylan are both touring with the Outlaw Festival and I’m tempted to go to make sure that I see Dylan one more time. I’ll probably end up not going, but I’m still thinking about it. There won’t be anyone else at the show that I actually want to see, and I’ve seen both Dylan and Willie, and while I enjoyed Willie when I saw him I don’t specifically care about seeing him again. Actually, even though the show will probably be weaker than the first one I saw 17 years ago, it’s more tempting to see him again now just for the novelty of seeing someone that old.
Willie Nelson started releasing music later than Frankie Valli even if he’s a year older, so he didn’t release anything in the 1950s.
Bobby Rush is still performing at age 91. He was older when he really started releasing music though.
I saw both Ravi Shankar and Buddy Guy when they were 87 years old. I don’t know that much about Ravi Shankar or that kind of music, so it’s harder for me to evaluate him against his earlier performances, but I enjoyed the show and he seemed to be in great shape. He performed right up until his death at age 92.
I’m much more familiar with Buddy Guy. He was clearly past his prime and it wasn’t the show you’d have gotten 15 years ago, but it was a good concert. Amazingly, he stood and wore his guitar the entire show. His playing was pretty good but he did let his other guitarists do alot of the lifting as well. It was billed as his farewell tour but it’s still going on over a year and half later. I think he toured with B.B. King for some of those awful later concerts (When B.B. was the age Buddy is now) so hopefully that was a cautionary experience for him.
Buddy Guy put out a couple of singles in the 1950s, but no albums.
