is that the Fourth of July was, despite the most minor fuxation that could have been hoped for by Donald Trump, done right: rah-rah, families at community parades, USA-USA! and all, without jingoism or triumphalism. None of this “…towards a more perfect union” and “we have a long way to go”, no ritually self-flagellating over slavery and the Indians (the official ceremony would have started off with a land acknowledgement, I guarantee it.) America at an important anniversary should be the uncritically champions of liberty throughout history. Save that nuance stuff for the classroom in this case.

America at 250 should be more Livius, less Lamentationes.
