Most obviously his entire deportation project has cruel, dehumanizing vibes that have reverberated down to the street level in an enforcement culture of violence and unaccountability, cheered on by Stephen Miller, Greg Bovino, and others, resulting in unnecessary deaths either from shooting protesters or considering an illegal immigrant in distress just human scum or “just an illegal”. That gets to me more than any of it – it’s just a game to them, where they play politics with people’s lives and livelihoods by doing things like withholding FEMA aid for states that didn’t vote for him. Certainly you can see how Trump is, on a personal level, a more disgusting human being than any president in recent memory?
I disagree with his general policy of accumulating more and more power within the executive. You could say it’s been going on since Reagan, but it’s definitely reached an apex where up to a short time ago it seemed like a determined ideologue could effectively rule unfettered. Thankfully in this case the courts and the institutions held, because Trump is a maximalist who wants all the power he can get concentrated in the executive – until the next Democratic president, when he (and, likely, you) will be crying tyranny when he tries to do half of what Trump did with his powers.
Largely my objection isn’t to the policy objectives per se as to what a giant asshole Trump – how he goes about things – and his megalomaniacal, authoritarian tendencies. And those giant Kim-esque banners outside the USDA. His habit of putting his name and likeness to everything seemed ominously (at least unprecedentedly) dictatorial but it seems he’s just a gaudy salesman.
