Do not buy this. It is a piece of shit:
I’ve had it less than five years and all the digital inputs are shot (the one reason I bought it instead of the one one down the line, which also has 15W less power but I don’t think I’ve ever cracked five watts in my apartment and 15W is a pittance anyway when you’re getting up to 85W-territory – you double the amplifier power for every 3dB gained, so you’re paying hundreds extra for about one extra decibel. You know what grinds my gears? Crappy boom boxes that boast 100W of power or whatever, a figure that’s useless without the speaker sensitivity rating. A pair of 83dB/1W speakers, probably along the lines of what the boxes have, take eight times the power of my 92dB Klipsches). In addition, The Zpeaker A outputs are shot and the phono stage has a faint radio signal in the background. My old preamp, DAC, and headphone amp lasted 19 years.
I’m looking at this:
I’m constrained from most preamps and integrateds because I need FM radio, and I don’t need it $600-for-a-separate-tuner bad. I’m thinking of pairing it with this until I can afford a good tube power amp (not some fly-by-night Chinese company using unusual tube types) – I have a low budget these days. Alternatively I could stick with this Toshiba (solid-state) and use plugins or DSP to simulate tube sound (enhanced second-order harmonics, inversion, soft clipping, etc etc).
