Music Babble’s own Paul C pointed out that British media coverage of Diana’s death went on for months and was completely unbearable. I believe him.
I know that Michael’s duet with Janet isn’t really that well remembered, but Janet still had the titty-popping-out Super Bowl debacle ahead of her so there’s that. She’s 60 now; the oldest Jackson, Rebbie, is 76. Michael’s mother Katherine is still alive. She’s 96. Hope she liked the movie.
Lil Jon..........BIA BIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Brandy was on one of those WB network shows. Moesha I think it was called. Or maybe it was the UPN. I wouldn’t know the difference, I didn’t have UPN. I had HBO though. No PAX network. Sorry, Billy Ray. To my knowledge, it’s not something anybody today still cares about–if the Buffy fanbase has been slowly dwindling for a long time now (they’ve been trying the obligatory reboot for ages, too–I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is the big holdout) and both Dawson himself and the Buffy cast are dying off then God knows who all still cares about Moesha. It’s not like I ever got around to watching The Facts Of Life or One Day At A Time when I was in high school.
My funniest junior high school dance memory–aside from the fact that I was kind of scared shitless wandering into the shitty cafeteria for the very first one (probably around September 1995–“Gangsta’s Paradise” was played twice!) is that some boys decided to pull a prank in the bathroom by locking a toilet stall door from the inside, then crawling out from under the door. This meant crawling on your belly through A LAKE OF DRIED PISS. And they did it. Fuck you, junior high dance! But I got to rent Yoshi’s Island from a grocery store that same night, so fuck yeah.
Was never impressed with “The Memory Remains,” though it’s sort of cool that they even thought to collaborate with Marianne Faithfull to begin with (not that she adds much to the song.) “Fuel” is cheese, but I guess it’s more memorable than most of that album. “King Nothing” remains all I really care about from either Load album.
I will never hear the Third Eye Blind album, but there’s a very sad memory I associate it with: the original American Pie movie’s second to last scene involves the four main guys meeting at a hot dog restaurant and toasting to the phrase “to the next step,” then it cuts to “Semi-Charmed Life” blaring away over a sign that says “CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS!!!!” Holy shit does that rush me with nostalgia. But everything does.
