Load was the first Metallica album I bought but I soured on it later. Now, divorced from adolescent tendencies to have poliarized opinions and engage in musical culture wars, a 1 CD version would be kind of spotty and suffer from the fact that I like Hetfield’s vocals and Hammett’s guitar style less during this era than in the ’80s, but you get a decent-but-not-great album. It’s fine, and I can understand why they thought this was the best direction to take.

I also think this is a case where we can confidently reconstruct the tracklist for a 1 CD version by looking at singles/promo singles/songs made into videos/songs played live.
