Douche canoe though he was certainly capable of being (he produced Surfer Rosa for the Pixies, then referred to it as “blandly entertaining college rock”–what a dickweed!) Steve Albini’s anti-CD stance (which dated to 1986) is something I always bring up when discussing physical media–>digital shift with younger people. When I tell them he produced In Utero, some of them have actually heard of it.

I haven’t read Jim Goad, but I do believe what that article’s writer is saying about what the “80s underground” was like, is probably right.
