Well there's always been a shorter radio edit without the "faggot" verse.

THe version on the album is over 8 minutes long. The album, the music video, and the radio edit are different version. If they want to play it on the radio without “faggot” in it, that has aways existed and was made for radio. Most singles that long have a radio edit. I dunno if they were ever truly worried about saying “faggot” in the ’80s or if that was just deemed the most expendable verse. They could always just sing it without that verse, but second of Googling tell me he sings “motherfucker” live now.

I would have assumed that's the version best known to people under 50 who don't remember it as a contemporary MTV hit -
