I don’t think Nabokov was a pedophile himself, but the phrase “Her brown rose tasted of blood” certainly made me want to gag–I guess censors didn’t know what he was alluding to back then? How did I not notice this gross little bit when I read the book twenty years ago?
Has any censor even made it through Ada? I did, but don’t ask me what happened in it–that book needs a re-read real bad!
