OK, Ken, I’ve given your favorite band a shot. I’ll run down my thoughts using the Starostin scale.
1) Originality - Let’s get this out of the way first. No 21st century guitar rock band can truly be original or groundbreaking at this late date in rock history. So the question is, “Does this band have its own voice/sound that is identifiable, interesting, and not your run of the mill standard chord patterns and cliches?” Then the answer for King Gizzard’s blend of psych/prog/metal is a definite YES. 3/5
2) Listenability - This shit goes down smooth like mocha. Lots of hooks, easy to latch onto. Points off for…well, see the next few categories. 4/5
3) Diversity - 0/5. Mind you, this is based on ONE album, which apparently was designed to flow as one long song, and maybe after a few more listens the tracks will stand out as individual songs more and not just pieces of one big song. The reoccurring riffs and melodies that pop in all over don’t help. Even though it’s only 40 minutes I felt exhausted after finishing this.
4) Resonance - Well, it rocks and it’s trippy. That’s two things. I can’t imagine anyone crying tears or raising their fist to this kind of music. Maybe I’ll try that acoustic album next to hear their wimpy sensitive side. 2/5
5) Adequacy - See above. The Lizard Wizards succeed at what they set out to do within this album’s limited parameters, hampered a bit by the lo-fi production and uncharismatic vocals. Also, I don’t like 5 minute song lengths - too short to be epic, too long to avoid being too repetitive for pop. 3/5
It definitely was difficult to pick out individual songs from this, but I guess I’d call “People Vultures” the standout track due to its warm, inviting Farfisa. And I’m somewhat annoyed by the bubblegum hippy-dippy melody of “Mr. Beat”. “Evil Death Roll” trips out on guitar solos for over 7 minutes and sounds like it would be fun to listen to stoned. The first 3 tracks were really hard to tell apart, though!

Diversity is an easy 5/5 for the band as a whole -
