and indeed, the viewer comments for the Youtube clip of that song are quite sad today. And indeed, I myself choked up during my listen to the song. Amusingly enough, George didn’t like it one bit.

No Pier Pressure could have been worse, but I didn’t like it much. Amusingly enough my favorite song from any of his solo albums might be “Goin’ Home” from That Lucky Old Sun, which has an a capella chorus break worthy of SMiLE.

At My Piano was pretty sad to listen to. Brian revisiting those songs yet again. (He already did an album of rerecordings in 1995.) The melodies are still good, but I can’t imagine something like that getting released in the CD age.

I wonder if any of the appraisal Brian is getting now that he’s dead will spill back on Orange Crate Art, the 1995 album he did with Van Dyke Parks. The two of them spent three years working on that (it was really a VDP album that Brian guested on to drum up interest) and spent a lot of money on it and it tanked HORRIBLY, I only found out about that when I was reading the reviews, of which there weren’t very many! Even SMiLE fans don’t care about that one much!

There’s a pretty good book about “we’re really entering the end times for that generation now!” It’s called Twilight Of The Gods: A Journey To The End Of Classic Rock by Steven Hyden, if you like.
