He claims that “classic rock” “started” with Sgt. Pepper’s; I myself would have picked Rubber Soul really, or maybe A Hard Day’s Night? That’s splitting hairs though. See if you can make sense of his claim that “classic rock” ended with Nine Inch Nails’ The Fragile. I don’t recall what his reasons were for picking that and not the Strokes or White Stripes.
The book isn’t written all that differently from something like Chuck Klosterman or something like that, but I think he does a bit better. There’s a hilarious bit in there about the Eagles, too.
Our own fading cultural relevance…well, one can’t be nostalgic for Boy Meets World forever, can one? Gotta get married and have kids! (But yes, 90s nostalgia does seem mercifully to be fading for now.)
