also hilarious! I’m gonna need all my friends to watch this ASAP so that we can reference it endlessly.
i think pretty much nobody had heard of the series before, it only had two short seasons aired on the now defunct viceland almost a decade ago so cant be legally streamed anywhere AFAIK. hard to fly more under the radar than that. But with the success of the film i’m sure the series will become more avaliable again. The movie doesnt expect you to have seen the show anyway. the premise is so simple (two loveable dumbasses create schemes to try and get their band a show at their favourite venue) that you pick up on the dynamic quick. but they film everything in public without permission which often sends things in radically unexpected directions with a lot of “how did they pull this off?” types of scenes as they play out their ridiculous fictional story while interacting with people who dont know what’s going on. feels like a cross between Spaced, Nathan for You, Always Sunny, and Flight of the Conchords.
You probably heard of the director’s previous movie “Blackberry”, which i never saw but heard good things about (and i will probably watch now).
