Think of all the music in the world that you haven't heard

And you choose to spend your time listening to dinosaur rock albums by bands way past their prime that you already know ahead of time that you’ll hate. Is this some sort of OCD thing?

That Love album has drive and energy and rocks surprisingly hard, but what garage rock band in 1966 didn’t? Somewhat above average songwriting pokes them above the Count Five or the Seeds, but at that point they were nothing that special. That’s why nobody talks about the debut.

It’s another GBV LP. They’ve released 500 albums that need to be scrutinized hard by devotees to tell them apart in terms of sound and consistency. This one sanded off many quirks and rough lo-fi for a more mainstream attempt at a sellout as they could muster while staying well in their zone. It’s OK. Like every other GBV album - some good, bad, and ugly in a good way.

That Byrds album is lethargic even by the standards of the least propulsive major rock band of the 60s. Maybe they should have fired Michael Clarke! Probably needs a revisit, as I haven’t heard it in at least a decade, maybe two.
