I have heard complaints that the MST3K Mitchell is really unfair to the movie - cutting out major bits of the plot and then complaining about how it doesn’t make sense, and not acknowledging that Mitchell is written to be a schlub. Re: Goldeneye, maybe he just got along well with Martin Campbell.

I think Edge of Darkness is worth watching, apparently the initial pitch for it was even stranger than it turned out, one of the main characters was going to transform into a tree. Hopefully that’s not a huge spoiler for the overall plot.
