There were two Jonestown movies right after Jonestown happened.

One was Guyana-Cult Of The Damned, which changed the names and was made by an exploitation producer. It got an absolutely hilarious zero-star pan from Ebert (who gave out lots of zero star ratings to exploitation films back then) but I haven’t seen it. The other one was a 1980 miniseries called Guyana Tragedy that had a young Powers Boothe playing Jim Jones and winning an Emmy for it. I have not seen the full film, but have seen the ten-minute scene from it that depicts the massacre, ending up with a closeup of Boothe’s glasses falling off and his face going stiff as we hear a loud gunshot. That part was pretty effective. I do not remember Levar Burton being in either film. He is certianly in Roots though.
