Depends who you ask, I havent bothered checking it out yet. I might not at all since the reviews have all been dismal. Arcade Fire are clearly spent as a major act. But they’ve been falling off hard for two albums prior to this one, so maybe everyone just got the hint. Also I know some important members have left the band and so they couldnt be what they used to be even if they wanted to. I was never as big on them as most people were though. I kinda thought Reflektor was their most interesting album since it had some interesting left turns on it. I never got the hype for The Suburbs. Funeral was good for it’s time, and I have fond memories of it being among the earliest “New” albums i was introduced to, but I thought the production on the record was kind of ass the last time I revisited it.
As far as the NPs solo acts the only one I was into was Neko Case, who is a pretty worthy singer songwriter on her own and has several good albums. Carl Newman’s solo albums just sound like NPs B-sides. I never liked Destroyer very much, but they have some interesting stuff and I can understand why someone would be a fan of them.
I still think the NPs have plenty of good tunes, but all their albums have some duds on them. “Challengers” might end up being my pick for their best since it holds together as a proper album better than most of their others. I’ve seen them live a bunch of times (I even got to see them do an intimate radio gig in a studio once) but they kind of put on the same show every time.
Metamorfosi are good, I don’t dislike them or anything. they deserve their place among the worthwhile italian prog bands. I just don’t think they’re more notable than any of the others from that scene. I can remember tons from the early PFM records I think they were pretty good at memorable tunes.
I checked out Anekdoten a little bit ages ago, I can barely remember them but they were the kind of artist Prog Archives dorks love and nobody else cares about. As far as swedish prog from the 90s goes Anglagard were always my favorite. I still think their records hold up pretty great.
