Will butler is the guy who left arcade fire. but maybe they would have fallen off even if he had stayed idk. “better them than Van Der Graaf Generator, but not better than Wilco or maybe Queen” kind of a random comparison but i wouldnt disagree.

All the songs on hybris are about the same level imo they were very consistent. I dont think it has to be a masterpiece to be worthwhile. it’s an 8/10 kinda record. theres room for just some good traditional progressive rock compositions that dont get too dorky or cheesy without getting too big for their britches. Their other two albums are equally good.

The more time passes and the more george spends his time reviewing the most boring music of the 50s and 60s on his blog the more i come to realize that him calling something “Extremely derivative” means nothing. at one time i did value his opinion highly though not going to discount that.
