I have only ever been able to stand “Satellite” as far as DMB goes. Matthews was one of the worst of the Eddie Vedder-derived vocalists in the 90s, DMB’s “jam” stuff played like boring homework for young people convinced they were listening to adult art, they did godawful drab covers of stuff like “Stairway To Heaven,” and then some of their hits like “I Did It” and “Gravediggarrrrrr” are some of the worst songs ever recorded.
I do not know what that band’s status even IS nowadays. The days when college bros and their girlfriends adored them seems like a weird, dated relic now, like something I wouldn’t be able to explain to young people today. I never understood the appeal of Hootie And The Blowfish either. If you time-warped me back into that 1995-97 era when alt-rock was going to hell in a handbasket because it had finally failed to avoid selling out, I don’t know what the fuck I’d tell people who were into the big acts of that era.
