Index > Summer In Paradise is not The Beach Boys worst album

It really isn't

but that’s because M. I. U. Album and The Beach Boys (1985) were even worse. I was disappointed with how awful Summer In Paradise was, because it wasn’t awful enough. I was hoping for a genuine “9/11 of albums” as Babble’s Ken Ditomaso put it. Instead I got the godawful “Summer Of Love” and a bunch of forgettable boring tunes. No, the two albums I named were even less than that.

I will agree with what you said about “Forever,” though I think I’ve already said so. The Stamos version isn’t very good, but I’m hearing a generic, harmless adult contemporary ballad, the kind you’d forget the moment it’s over.

I do NOT agree that “Summer Of Love” is a good song–it’s the worst thing on the album and I’ve hated ever since I saw it on Baywatch when I was like 12. If Mike Love is “in on the joke” then he was “in on the joke” when he did “Kokomo” too. I don’t even consider it a guilty pleasure–it’s genuinely embarrassing and only Brian’s “Smart Girls” is worse, remarkably enough.

God bless Roger McGuinn for other reasons

I like a couple of the songs on Still Cruisin’, like “Make It Big.” Watch the Beach Boys get down with a silly 80s Casio keyboard sound and WIN!

Why’d you give Songs For The Deaf a low score, beesh? U mad bro? That album’s real good, I’m going to do the QOTSA discography once Game Theory is out of the way.
