Index > OUTGROWN > Unrelated: I finally got a new computer, almost two years

Trump’s war on foreign aid finally caught up with me, so I entered into an exciting new age of unemployment this month. My old company initially wanted me to send my computer back - which would have been stupid, I’m currently in Eastern Europe - but finally relented and asked me just to wipe the hard drive. Which would have been fine, had they warned me in advance that they’d change my login password. I end up locked out, meaning I can’t download a new Windows ISO. Plus, unfortunately I’m in a country which developed past the point of needing internet cafes but not quite to the point where the local library has free computers to use.
Fortunately, after a few weeks, a friend of mine came through and I was able to get the old machine working again. But that was purely just luck.
Anyways, so now I’m 36 and homeless and unemployed. But at least I have a semi-functional laptop.
