Well, that’s an extremely long-winded way to belabor a point. Tl;dr, you can get the gist in the first couple of paragraphs - I made it halfway down before bailing. I agree with the critics: art, social change, and even technology seem to be moving in increments compared to the 20th century. The distances between 1946 and 1966, 1966 to 1986 were unfathomably vast. From 1986 to 2006, not as much, but you could still notice significant changes in music and society. From 2006 to now....it’s practically the same era. I mean, we’re still living in a world recognizable to the Sopranos and the Wire. It’s been a decade since Breaking Bad and it could have been shot yesterday without altering a single detail. That wouldn’t have been possible for any decades of the 20th century, be it 1923 to 1933, or 1983 to 1993. And especially not 1963 to 1973!
