I just like to use them as an example–within one year of the Pixies breaking up via fax, Kim Deal was responsible for an album and single whose commercial success handily beat out everything the Pixies did put together, but now people think of the Pixies first when her name comes up.

Johnny Hates Jazz did the silly 80s pop song “Shattered Dreams” which used to turn up on lame late-night compilation-CD infomercials.

If you can remember that Legion guy, he did a post where he tried listening to a bunch of his old favorite second-rate alt-rock albums from the 1990s that he liked as a young teen, and the stuff he trashed the most was PUSA, Silverchair and Everclear. That’s probably what I was thinking of when I listed them. Should I have listed Bush, Gin Blossoms or the Mighty Mighty Bosstones instead?

I’ll always count on this board to reassure me that the world has not, in fact, forgotten my favorite band, R. E. M.
