You could say that about most of the states

No way Delaware, the Dakotas, etc., could survive as independent states. Much of the South’s economic survival is heavily dependent on subsidies from the government - entire towns where generations have scratched by on welfare. Then there’s all those Western states where hardly anybody lives and are only useful for resource extraction like mining and oil.

The Alberta secession referendums they keep having are ridiculous. Just because they have oil doesn’t mean they can survive as an independent state.

California and Texas would be fine as independent states. New York is too embedded into the greater Northeast corridor - millions of people commute from New Jersey every day, tariffs and immigration would be a daily nightmare. Most of the rest couldn’t. Maybe Hawaii?
