While I think North American secessionism is a dumb idea

I’m not really sure an independent Alberta or Delaware or whatever is more or less ridiculous than an independent Kirabati or Burnei or Lesotho or Moldova or Liechtenstein etc etc. A lot of the actually existing states in the world exist because of political quirks and seem unworkable in the abstract.

I guess you could go down the rabbit hole and say that (1) a secessionist movement in the United States could only exist in a timeline where the US is significantly weaker than it is now, in which case (2) maybe that means the Kirabatis and the Moldovas of the world won’t be around for much longer. But in a world of international trade agreements and security pacts, I think these things are stupid but not inherently unworkable.
