I definitely think he had a bit of a renaissance maybe about ten years ago, especially with the High Rise adaptation and Crash finally getting a normal release. I think he’s still relatively popular with your leftist podcast crowd.

Sadly agree with you on OBAA. But my favorite PTA is far and away Phantom Thread, so idk if you’ll get on the same page.

There are just too many hijinks in the big 2025 movies. DiCaprio bumbling around in OBAA, Chalamet falling through the roof in a bathtub in Marty Supreme, Emma Stone getting knocked around in Bugonia, and like half of everything that happens in No Other Choice. Which makes me think that it’s the influence of Korean cinema, where you have a lot more broad dark comedy. I think all of these were pretty overrated, although I did really like Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, which is a much quieter and sadder film. Also, so many of these movies are so crowded and busy that it’s making me go back and watch a lot of long slow films that I haven’t seen before (Rivette’s Secret Defense being the best of these).
