I remember thinking that Big Sur was a pretty good book but don’t remember at all what happened in it, for some reason, whereas I can at least remember that Dharma Bums started out with Jacky Boy whining like a teenager about kids watching TV, and ended with him, like, whoa bro, climbing a mountain! I thought it was a dumb book but never found any other opinion from anyone concurring with me, and Derrick told me to get out of the house for my negtive opinion.
There was a movie made of Big Sur a few years back, but I didn’t see it. There was a movie of On The Road made in 2012, starring Sam Riley (the guy who did a great job playing Ian Curtis in Control about twenty years ago!!) as Kerouac, which got good reviews but didn’t seem to kick up a lot of business, which is weird because so many people are still reading and loving the book (you lose, Truman Capote!) It updated things for modern times by having a scene where Kirsten Dunst playing…I forget who, but she cusses out Dean Moriarty/Neal Cassady for being a skunk who goes around nailing teenage girls and knocking them up and running away like a shit. I for one wholeheartedly approve of that scene!
