I tend to agree with you about the ghostly quality of the original. This is better in some ways, but the best version would probably be this version with extra reverb and effects to boost his voice a bit.

There’s a clip on the trailer for Real Love and I think they may have made the same mistake there, boosing John really high in the mix, where the psychedelic reverby vocal effect felt quite ‘beatley’ to me.

Based on the tracklisting, Anthology 4 seems like a waste of time!
