Index > What did everyone think of the 2026 Oscars?

I don’t think the Best Picture line-up was all that terrible, even if I’m not crazy about anything there. OBAA, Marty Supreme, Bugonia, and Sentimental Value all kinda middling works from directors who’ve made great stuff in the past, but everything is watchable and fine. Sinners I didn’t care for - especially the vampire stuff - but it’s weird and baffling in respectable way. F1 was whatever shlock. The Secret Agent was really good - the only one I’m excited to watch again. Frankenstein, Train Dreams, Hamnet - didn’t see, don’t care either way.
Sentimental Value was definitely the worst film in the International line-up, that’s lame.
I know most of this board only watches recent movies to confirm that everything new is boring and overrated, but personally I’m much happier we’re in a world where One Battle After Another wins instead of truly terrible shit like Forrest Gump or Crash or American Beauty. As film becomes a more niche medium, I think we’re going to see the Oscars continue to become relatively less populist.
NP Yoko Ono - “Don’t Worry Kyoto” (this slaps, why didn’t anyone ever tell me)
