I must have officially been in my own CD-buying musical world by this point (freshman/sophomore year)

because I don’t remember a single one of these except for “Drops of Jupiter”, which is the only Train song I can stand, which puts them up on Creed, I guess. Limp Bizkit didn’t have any good songs (“Behind Blue Eyes” is even bigger turd than the original), though “Nookie” is fun. Bad but fun (“Nookie”) beats tolerable but dull (“Jupiter”). Those guys were around for a while, too – I saw just this morning, in fact, that “Hey Soul Sister” (the worst melodic rock song of the 21st century?) came out in 2009, meaning Train’s commercial peak lasted longer than Creed’s and Imagine Dragons’ put together (well they did have one more tolerable song than the two of them put together).

When did George’s site start? I started reading him before my Jethro Tull phase in 2002 but after my Pink Floyd phase in 2000-01 and even then his site seemed like a bible of classic rock. He sure cranked them out early on. But it gave me a near-endless well of music to explore, in high school, at least. It wasn’t until Of Montreal junior year or Happy Mondays senior year that I really departed from Starostinian orthodoxy, and orthodoxy it was – his opinions, even his heterodox crankish ones, were gospel for an embarrassingly long amount of time, even more so as I didn’t post to Music Babble until he was gone all but officially so I didn’t get to know him as just a man who shits one leg at a time like everybody else.
