The big publishers are just going to keep putting out vampire-werewolf porn books and celebrity memoirs until they completely fold in the next decade. Literature is cooked, over for the time being, until maybe some cataclysmic event takes away everyone’s smart phones for a while. If there was a market for ambitious American fiction, it would be coming out. Unfortunately the only people still buying books are horny highly-educated women and they want the pronouns in their novels to be correct and their borderline sexual assault scenes to remain just borderline.

Everyone spent the past few years ranting about “gender studies” and ethnic enclaves in the Humanities and completely ignoring all of that was already going away, replaced by electronic sports investments by the big universities. Now the AI companies are coming to try and put down the written word forever.
