Remember when Sleater-Kinney were the bestest and hottest band in the U.S. of A.? Among the critics and hipsters, that is, but not with the public, which....says a lot. On the positive side, they rocked and in a somewhat novel way, all the right elements were theoretically there, including ’90s PC cred by virtue of being not just grrrls but thrift-store fashion lezzzbians too, and hey! they were into the Kinks! but....meh to their actual music, which always sounded unappetizingly dry and lacking that certain something. Maybe a bass player? Same dry hollow feeling I got from the White Stripes.

2003 was a long time ago....sigh.
