Oh I forgot to comment on Mallrats. That’s the only Kevin Smith movie I’ve seen. I liked it but I haven’t seen it in over 20 years and am not interested in rewatching it. I am surprised at your talking about it “finding an audience,” I remember it being popular at the time. I’m not saying it didn’t tank in the theaters, but I thought it had a solid following on home media.

I remember when Scarlet came out. That seems like a pretty bizarre project to me.

I honestly wouldn’t know what Hogg was if you hadn’t mentioned it here, and I’ve read several Delany books and have heard lots about others. Dhalgren is his most famous with SF fans, but there are other big ones like Babel-17 (which I’ve read) and Nova (which I haven’t but keep meaning to). Nova is in a Library of America collection.

Slow Train and Saved were supported by the same 6 month tour, where he only played those songs and one other single and preached between songs. The bootleg series recording of that tour cuts out the preaching. He stopped preaching and started playing classics again on the Shot of Love tour.
