(I can’t for the life of me name any from before 1993

The Slaughterhouse Five movie actually won a Hugo and Timbuktu was nominated, but the film category was always stupid, because the people winning it didn’t care about it like the authors did, and full of weird nominees, because there weren’t usually 5 good candidates in one year, and weird winners. The novel was nominated the year it came out but deservedly lost to Left Hand of Darkness, and they never would have given Vonnegut the award because he wouldn’t have wanted it and people who shun SF fan culture usually only win awards in the film categories.
Patrick Stewart was bald before he really became a famous screen actor, and what little hair he had was white before he was 50.
You mentioned Friday the 13th not having great music. Yeah, it has dumb Psycho-ripoff music.
And re Jason’s mom being amateurish, she was the only pro in the movie wasn’t she? And only Kevin Bacon really became much of one.
The whole idea of having his mom as the killer seems like it should be something from a movie with a real plot and a mystery and red herrings that actually matter, but all we get is that drunk religious guy who turns out to be hiding in a closet for no reason at one point.
I will say, FWIW, that I don’t think the connection between sex and getting murdered is conspicuous in that movie without preconceptions and cherry picking.
I’m not really very familiar with that series as a whole. I know that there are people who like the first one and don’t care for the later movies, which are pretty different. I remember that Prindle said that he thought the first two were genuinely scary and the rest didn’t really try to be.
I don’t know the Halloween sequels either.
I guess I see your point about Drak Me to Hell being really cruel, but I had a great time with it. I’ll see how it hold up under rewatches.
