I’m not even that wild about classifying Vonnegut as a “science fiction” writer anyway. I mean yeah, he had the concepts and whatnot but he was only interested in jokily using them to spit out his despondent miseries about the human race. I guess he’s a science fiction writer anyway, but in my mind, when you say “great science fiction writers!” I often have to remind myself that Vonnegut did in fact write a lot of science fiction!
As far as novels from 1969 go, I’d prefer Portnoy’s Complaint and Nabokov’s Ada, but neither of those are science fiction.
Jason’s mom is now being played by Linda Cardellini in a streaming series called Crystal Lake. I’m generally sick of prequels and backstory movies/series for supporting/minor characters, but that’s probably more interesting to watch than any of the Jason movies.
Essays about the connection between sex and death in horror movies have been done to death, and my eyes glaze over whenever I encounter the subject, which was thought provoking maybe when I was 16 but not now. I don’t remember how much sex there was in Friday The 13th because any 80s movie set at a camp blurs together for me.
Prindle made me laugh when he referred to the one that Alice Cooper did “He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)” for as Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Isn’t Terribly Scary or something like that. His description of the Cooper song as “not having any guitars in it!!!” made me LOL, too.
