Re: Longpigs, as a child of the britpop era, The Sun Is Often Out was among the first albums I ever heard in full! I’ve barely listened to it since but looking down the tracklist I can still remember the chorus of nearly every song, so it must have something going for it.

I remember the second album felt like it took an age to come out, and by the time it arrived in 1999 that whole scene was on its very last legs and no one gave much of a shit.

Re: Roxy and Elsewhere, I’m assuming you meant you’re not into the style? I’ve never been much into it either. The band is technically impressive, and it’s also impressive that they put out a live album that’s almost all new material when they were already putting out at least one studio album a year. But other than all the spectacular flourishes and show-offy note runs, the songs are just not that good…

Re: Rated R, I rented and ripped a CD of this from the library when it was new (how’s that for some archaic cultural behaviour?). Ironically considering I discovered them before they were fully mainstream, and later became quite a big fan, at the time I didn’t actually care for it that much and mostly sat out their peak commercial years, only picking them up again after Lullabies To Paralyze. For some reason I was more into the screamy Nick Oliveri tracks, probably because I’d gotten into ATDI around that time.

You may enjoy this music box they put out:

I keep expecting Homme to be the star of the next DEAD thread, because he had cancer and was constantly cancelling shows and tours due to unspecified illnesses. But he seems to be hanging in there…
