I had seen the cover of that Bow Wow Wow thing, because Storm Thorgeson put it in the 100 Greatest Album Covers book that I had as a teen. (How many of Thorgeson’s own covers were in the book, I’ll leave you to guess, but it was at least five, including the Division Bell cover, which I didn’t know anyone thought was that great.)
Photographed by Andy Earl, the cover caused outrage that led to an investigation by Scotland Yard, instigated by Lwin’s mother.[12]
Well I guess that makes Lwin’s mother better than Brooke Shields’ mother. Maybe because Shields’ mother (and Shields) were Catholic?
I had forgotten how young she was when she sang that stupid hit song that is unfortunately still with us (I’ve always hated it) but I thought people who didn’t find the cover offensive just liked that it was a recreation of that old painting? I find the Blind Faith cover inoffensive but the Scorpions one is easily the most disgusting album cover ever. I have seen Reddit threads where European people try to claim the Scorpions cover is inoffensive and not even sexual and that we’re all just prudes.
