I’m not an opera guy but I know the Verdi is supposed to be a classic. I don’t dislike Merry Wives but it’s probably a bottom 5 Shakespeare play and a bottom 3 comedy. I’d probably be more likely to love a student production than one from a big prestigious festival, because they students would cut it down to the best/most necessary parts and probably do it in around 90 minutes.
