if the game is about pranking the player than it should have far more forgiving regarding death. such as level select multiple or even unlimited lives. save games etc
if the game is about challenging super player. then the game should be hard but fair. there are lot of videos out there calling out on the game for “bad” level designs. although i guess what counts as bad is subjective. i don’t think it’s bad by the standard of a prank but it’s bad by standard of fair challenge.
i mean i finished the last level of Mario wonder that took over 150+ life and i didn’t feel it was unfair like Lost Levels
however with modern system. the unfairness of Lost Level and the cheeky prank-like manner becomes really enjoyable when there is no consequences with death
now it’s possible that i judging the game by modern standards which is how fun it is to play the game to 100%. maybe back in 1986 no one cared that you can’t 100% the game without beating the game 8 times in a single sitting.
if you simply just judge it how fun to play it and even if it is almost impossible to 100% the game maybe the game is better. the completionist need to 100% the game is a modern construct
