I'm pretty fond of Between the Buttons

Idk it’s just more fun than Aftermath, even if some of the songs are trifles. I think “all sold out” would be a classic with some better production. I always had the US version, I do wish it had “Back Street Girl.”

I quite like “Slip Inside This House,” though I really love the Primal Scream cover - I recently learned that Bobby Gillespie doesn’t sing on it because he came into the studio too fucked up to do anything, and it’s another member of the band imitating him. Just goes to show that all their best work has minimal input from the frontman, “Loaded” is great until he comes in with his completely half-assed vocals.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Second Coming all the way through. At some point I picked up a comp with the extremely misleading title of The Complete Stone Roses, with a bunch of b-sides and a few Second Coming tracks, and I gotta say, it does feel like the debut put together every good musical idea they had. I listened to it recently and all those songs are really professional and hook-filled and do what they’re setting out to do (though I don’t much like Bye Bye Badman), but even the b-sides from that era just sound corny and limp to me.

I’m really enjoying the new album by Memorials, give it a listen sometime!
