RIP, for what he was – I know most people here are reflexively anti-Republican, but for decades he was one of the party’s leading moderates except on military/”national security” issues (this plus his resting bitch-face led many to conclude he was further to the right than he was), John McCain’s BFF and collaborator most notably on what was sensible immigration reform in 2007 and 2013, nerfed by Republican hard-liners who called it amnesty (“Lindsay Graham-nesty”). He was a relentless critic of Donald Trump in 2015-16 and even something of a never-Trumper.

Then he changed and became one of Don’s most prominent lapdogs for all six years. What happened? Maybe he lost his lodestar in McCain; perhaps Trump had kompromat – expect to hear lots of speculation about his sexuality in the days to come – a lifelong bachelor, he was rumored for as long as he was in Congress (described as an “open secret” on Capitol Hill) as a deeply closeted gay man who may have died even in denial.

What’s the header image supposed to be? This is like the fifth one straight I’ve had to wonder that. Benjamin’s header images suck.
