I like “Digging In The Dirt,” but didn’t hear Us, his big divorce album. Peter had some big crazy project a couple years ago but I didn’t hear it. Aside from that all I know about him these days was that he attended the final-ever Genesis show. And that embarrassing story about him checking to make sure Thom Yorke heard his version of “Street Spirit.”
So - “That Voice Again” was the best of the non-hit songs. Very 80s but an attractive melody. “Red Rain,” “Sledgehammer” and “Big Time” are all cool hits, nice videos too, but fuck “In Your Eyes.” It’s the first album I think of when I think of the big 80s MTV albums because there was always an argument for any given one of them how front-loaded they were with the hits. But it’s also because it’s an ex-prog-rocker from the 70s hitting what was (then) middle age (not anymore, obviously–Taylor Swift is the same age right now, and does anyone think of her as getting old?) and successfully making it all over MTV in the middle of a new age.
I think most people liked it, except George (who was a fan) and Prindle (who wasn’t). Security was better, albeit rather dated.
