If you’re referring to Andrew Earles’ Husker Du: The Story Of The Noise-Pop Pioneers Who Launched Modern Rock from 2010, I thought it was a decent book, but it didn’t seem to get very much respect online, and the main reason why is that it’s apparently riddled with errors, like getting the name of Husker Du’s major label wrong? Wasn’t it? I didn’t think it was a bad book though it spends long stretches describing every song on their early records, then blows through Warehouse (which is not a perfect album, but a pretty good one anyway, and easily destroys worthless shit like Land Speed Record) Did you ever read that book about the Germs? It’s really pretty good even if you don’t give a shit about the band’s music (and I don’t, not a bit…and I remember you being pretty hard on the Germs on your old site!), really putting you there in the middle of the ridiculous LA punk scene. The stuff about Pat Smear and Darby Crash’s $cientology high school is fucking SURREAL.

I’m not wild about those two Kinks songs you mentioned but yeah, you’re right, I was conflating Dave Davies’ story with Mick Avory’s. I don’t remember the cymbal bit, but I should’ve. I probably forgot about Dave Davies getting a girl pregnant because Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones was a far more egregious offender in that regard (not just one girl but two, and he ran away to Scandinavia in a Neal Cassady-esque manner!)
