I’ve seen online critics make that argument. Unlike Ridley Scott and Clint Eastwood, though, Spielberg is still doing excellent work. This feels like a great artist revisiting his lifelong obsessions in the twilight of his career. His recent films have been about his childhood, an adaptation of a landmark Broadway musical from that era, and now another film rooted in a childhood fascination. I think this film’s reputation will grow. See it on the big screen if you can.
