Exdeath is a tree in his first form as final boss, then he goes “W H Y?” and then after you beat him he turns into a four-faced swamp thing over a glittery speeding silver background, Neo-Exdeath. I recall just using lots of Bahamut and such to kill him. It’s been about 28 years since I last played that game, though!!!
