I mostly only know what they think from people here talking about them.
In the early 2000s I heard alot more, positive and negative, about U2. I Googled “why do people hate U2 now” and found a bunch of entire articles about it, but “in the wild” it’s not really clear one way or the other. I will say that I think younger people now tend to like random individual slick stadium rock songs more than they did 25 years ago, but you hear alot less U2.
That iTunes thing did deserve the business equivalent of a Darwin Award.
They’re playing The Sphere now, which seems like it’s geared towards major concert draws that don’t want to our as heavily (because the bands are older) and who have audiences with money (which means that the audience is older).
