Well I hope you’re playing on an emulator with savestates because KI is another one of those NES games based on precise jumping where it’s easy to fall off. If I’d have played the game on a real NES it would have killed me just like Zelda II or Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden or Battletoads or any of those others would have killed me.
I don’t know what I said last time you mentioned this Super Castlevania IV: Simon’s Quest idea, but I do like it!! Of course…I never played Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Genesis for more than about five minutes…
Here’s all the personally beloved games I feel I need to replay before I croak of mesothelioma (sp? not looking that up)
EarthBound: This is the Holy Grail and yes I do want the actual SNES cartridge. It’s been probably a quarter century and the cult behind this thing has only gotten bigger and bigger with every passing year. I’m trying to contact the guy I gave my old cartridge to in the first place (I sold all my SNES games in 1996 to pay for an N64–dumb!!!) but he’s hard to get ahold of.
Super R-Type: Have never played this, but found a used copy of the cartridge and will try to get to it before the end of this year. Gotta finish GoldenEye 007 first dad gummit!!!
Final Fantasy/Final Fantasy II (PS1 remake versions): Purchased this used two or three years ago and still haven’t so much as popped into my PS1 and played it. Must get to it!!! Who knows, I might not even like it.
Super Metroid: Will probably do this one next year. Probably in spring 2026, I think of it as a “spring” game. Aheh. That’s OCD talking. Inspired by the AVGN episode obviously but yes I have been meaning to see if I forgot any of this one for a few years now anyway.
Metroid: While I’m at it…
Kid Icarus And if I’m gonna replay Metroid might as well do its sister game while I’m at THAT…I periodically have dug out my old savestate of this but it’s at the beginning of stage 3-1, so I can play Sky World, my favorite part of the game. I haven’t replayed the WHOLE game much. Will have AVGN’s criticisms in mind while playing it this time.
Ghouls n’ Ghosts, Gunstar Heroes, Revenge Of Shinobi, Strider, Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3: Have been meaning to replay all seven of the Sega Genesis platform games I downloaded back in the 90s and played with the KGen emulator. It’s been decades, so these should be good and fresh! Shouldn’t take too long on any of ‘em either. Will try to do this next year.
Super Mario 64: Probably haven’t forgotten much of this, but should play it again for old times’ sake.
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina OF Time: DEFINITELY haven’t forgotten much of this, but one last run through before I’m 50 couldn’t hurt. I mean, it’ll probably just like when I played A Link To The Past again after all those years and the Dark World dungeons were easily the core of the game, the adult-Link dungeons are probably the core of this one.
Final Fantasy VI/Chrono Trigger: My main purpose in replaying these after many years is to see if they have the same problem that marred my 2023-24 replay of Final Fantasy VII: i.e., that the game is actually kind of easy and the battles are rote and you don’t really need all those cool weapons/spells/attacks/items/classes. I really hope at least in the case of FF6 (which I always thought was better than FF7, though some of that was juvenile Nintendo loyalty) that this doesn’t turn out to be the case, as I know there are at least two parts of FF6 that are easily more challenging than ANYTHING in FF7. If it doesn’t pan out, then my final opinion will be that Final Fantasy Tactics is the best FF game!!
Resident Evil 2: Should play the Claire A/Leon B scenario a second time, when I replayed RE2 for the first time in 20 years in 2023, I played Leon A/Claire B.
