I vaguely remember Safety Not Guaranteed being dull and underwhelming. Backrooms has a few things that give away that this is the first film by a young filmmaker, but tbh if you didn’t know that ahead of time and weren’t looking for it you might not realize. This feels like a “real movie” in a way that other internet-originating stuff does not (the recent “Iron Lung” movie for instance which felt like a bad student film), so if he only improves from here that’s gonna be someone to watch out for. I’m definitely on board to see more from this universe, as long as the creative team is maintained, bring on the sequels!
MH guys have clearly moved on by this point. I’m surprised that they did Rosswood at all, but it was fun as a little nostalgia thing.
Zoot Allures is one of a handful of Zappa albums from that era that I never took the time to listen to (all the Lather era albums I mostly skipped and just listened to Lather instead). Torture Never Stops is a cool song in live versions.
I dont think i mentioned listening to them but I’ve been checking out Popol Vuh recently as well. Interesting group though for the life of me I cannot really pin them down, seems like each of their records is halfway in between several different genres. Some of their songs reminded me of the more pretty spacey parts of grateful dead jams.
